It was a pleasure to receive a visit from our District Governor, Jocelyn Hogg. Jocelyn told us that she joined Rotary in 2015 to “create opportunities for herself, to do something for others and to sense the self-fulfillment that comes in that process”. Since then, she has been an Area Governor, and has made many trips to Vanuatu to help with rebuilding efforts following Cyclone Pam, and is now on her journey as District Governor during the regionalisation process.
She believes that the regionalisation pilot holds great promise for our zone to foster and enhance collaboration, allowing us to test our assumptions, gather feedback, identify risks, and measure outcomes of a change initiative.
In her role of District Governor, during the regionalisation pilot, she will continue to lead the District, but also collaborate with the four Community Leaders across our District focusing on the goals of the RI President, District, the Regional Council, RI areas of focus and RI’s Action Plan alignment. She will continue to support the Clubs in the District, and to engage, inspire, and motivate our members and promote Rotary in the community.
She spoke of the ‘Rotary Community Groups’ (RCG) which are based on what clubs have in common, and were designed to foster greater collaboration among clubs so they can work more and at a larger scale than they could on their own. She mentioned about the availability of ‘Rotary Specialists’ - people with expertise and skills in key areas that are important to Rotary and Rotaract clubs.
She spoke encouragingly of The Rotary Foundation (TRF) as a fundamental part of Rotary and that it should continue to be our charity of choice.
She also encouraged clubs to continually reflect on their success, and to ask the question: Is my club fit for purpose?
