Members may recall that Eastern Hutt Rotary, supported by a Regional grant, contributed to a “Music for Life” project in which Rani Allan (therapist) introduced people with early- stage dementia to a radio look-alike named a “Simple Music Player”.

Rani guided the subjects to record a play list of music that held special importance to them.  At the end of the observed trial the subjects kept their Simple Music Players. Robin Fenwick has recently received the following message.

One person “who had participated in the Music for Life project passed away last year.  He had used the SMP at home and then when he moved to a dementia unit it went with him and was regularly used- and now I have just heard that all the music played at his funeral came from the SMP.  Just showed how beautiful his Play List was chosen.
