On 8th April 2019, Brian Lummis was awarded a double Paul Harris Fellow Sapphire Pin for his outstanding service and contributions to Eastern Hutt Rotary of many years.
Brian Lummis joined the Rotary Club of Eastern Hutt 20 years ago in May 1999. Since then he has been the epitome of Service within the Community, in particular when it comes for business owners to use their expertise to help those less fortunate.
Brian has given his time and expertise to numerous fundraising activities. For the past 15 years he has arranged for sponsors for our annual golf tournament supporting Te Omanga Hospice. Following the demise of a series of nationwide golf tournaments, of which our club supported the local leg, Brian, along with Paddy Wells, Paul Warren, and Maurice Payes took it upon themselves to run an annual golf tournament. Paddy, being the then golf club manager volunteered to get the 100+ players.
Brian took on the onerous task of coercing 40 of his catering suppliers to part with a combined $4,000. In addition, he produced all the 'sponsor' signs placed around the course to advertise each supplier and of course to promote Easter Hutt Rotary to the players.
Through Brian's efforts alone, over $60,000 has been raised for Te Omanga Hospice and this fundraising model has been so successful it has remained unchanged for 15 years.
