Well, I'm writing this on Wednesday, and what a cracker of a day it is – almost feels like Summer. Almost I say! Perhaps I should have whispered that to ensure I didn’t ‘jinx’ things.
A few things for your memory banks.
- Tawa Rotary club is hosting an Oktoberfest celebration at the Bowling Club in Tawa on 22/9/26. Tickets are $35.00 which includes a meal for two. Time is 5.45pm. RSVP is required by 18th Sept to the Tawa Rotary Club.
- Rotary Hutt Valley and IYM are having a quiz night fundraiser including auction at Boulcott Farm Golf Club on 1st October at 6pm. Ticket costs are $30.00
- Remember we are only looking at 50 tickets sold for our own Quiz night on 25th September at 7pm. To make this really viable as far as fundraising is concerned, we need more people. Please can everyone start a phone tree dialogue to pull out all the stops for at least another 30 or so.
- Next week our speaker is Kenny Mills. To jog your memory, he was our Elvis impersonator for our Christmas dinner. I think we all agree he was wonderful.
Monday night’s committee night was full of great ideas coming through, even though we had a huge number of people away. Thank you all for your commitment and I look forward to hearing about the different projects talked about on Monday night.
If you have some time free, please pop in and see either Judy Dearsley or Paddy Wells to keep them up to date with what’s happening in the club. I am sure they will love seeing you.
Lastly but not least, “An apple a day keeps the Doctor away – if you throw it hard enough!”
And finally: A doctor, lawyer and Rotarian in charge of fundraising all die and arrive at the Pearly Gates about the same time. St Peter tells them they may each have one thing to take with them to Heaven.
The Doctor is first and asks for $1 million. This is given, and he proceeds to enter the gates. The Lawyer, not to be outdone, asks for $2 million. “Very well” says St Peter and opens the gate to Heaven for the Lawyer.
Finally, it is time for the Rotarian, who had just finished a fundraising project for the Rotary Foundation. St Peter asks him what he would like to take to Heaven. The fundraiser moves up close to St Peter, and in a soft voice asks, “if it’s not too much trouble, could I have the names of those two people who were ahead of me in line?”.
