Last Meeting
Sustainable Development and helping Nepal
As well as being a wife, mother, Deputy Mayor of Upper Hutt and Co-ordinator of the Jackson Street programme, our guest speaker, Helen Swales is also a member of the Business and Professional Women's Association, which has 130 clubs worldwide, but has flown under the radar for most of us.  BPW believes in the 17 goals of the United Nations and is particularly concerned with the rights and welfare of women and children who are so often the ones who suffer most in a human crisis.  She gave the case of the massive 2015 earthquake in Nepal as an example of their community projects.  After the earthquake of  Saturday, 25 April there were 9000 dead, 22000 badly injured.

General Notices

* The roster can change weekly with absences etc so please check the roster each week to see if you have a duty.

* Invitation to Inter-Club Drinks
Rotary Hutt Valley invites all Rotarians to join them for after-work drinks on Wednesday
29 November at the Angus Inn (Pickles Perch Bar) from 5.00pm. This is an informal social event - a chance to catch up and connect/re-connect.  If you are intending to go can you let President John know so he can confirm numbers.

* River Valley Rotary Club - Stokes Valley Xmas Parade - Saturday 2 December – Help Required
The parade starts at noon and runs down Stokes Valley Road to Evans Street (Speldhurst Park).  It takes 20 minutes, with adjoining roads coned off and manned by club members & volunteers.  It would be great if some of our members could assist.  The commitment would be about 90 minutes (11am - 12:30pm) with a full briefing and high viz jackets provided.  In addition, also a great opportunity to enjoy this Christmas festivity including the marketplace stalls on Speldhurst Park.  Mike has already booked 8 River Valley members to help with our Christmas Raffle selling.  It would be great if we could reciprocate! Please let Mike Fackney know if you can help.

Christmas Raffle Roster Availability
A friendly reminder to let Mike Fackney (mfackney@yahoo.com, mob: 0212359156) know of your roster availability as soon as possible, if you haven’t already. Thank you to all who have already done so.

* Christmas Function
 This year's Christmas function will be held on Monday 4 December.

* Christmas Puddings
Please contact Anne Abbott with your Christmas pudding orders as soon as possible.
Last year we were really close to not getting all of our orders, and Anne managed to get the last pudding!.  Anne's phone number is 020 4004 2404, so please, either ring her or give her your orders next Monday at Rotary.

* Entertainment Books
If you dine out, or go out for coffee, think about getting an Entertainment book.  For the first 2 weeks in November, they are giving a 25% discount on a 12 or 24 month membership, and an extra $10 donation to our Rotary Club. They make great Christmas presents.  Please contact Anne if you want to take advantage of either of these offers.

Jaye and Friends Latest Tramping Trip
A group photo taken at the end of a rewarding day
Second day, and time for the Matetawa Hut 4 hour round trip. Several of these ladders proved rather easier than parts of the quite challenging track!
(Ed - Doesn't look very easy to me.  Jaye you are a marvel!)

Parting Thought

Christine provided the two parting thoughts at the end of the meeting -
"Peace is always beautiful"
Walt Whitman
 and
"An eye for an eye will only make the whole world blind"
Mohandas Gandhi
