Message from President Jan: We have come through a very busy time for us and I would like to thank the following:
Annette Ruck for instigating the invitation to the US Ambassador visit prior to Covid-19 and Linda Goss-Wallace for seeing it through to fruition. It was a very successful evening,
Linda Goss-Wallace for arranging the visit to the Rural Fire Station in Wainuiomata. A great visit and I for one, learned a lot,
Richard Perry for coordinating the "Ride the Train" fundraiser for the End Polio Now campaign. I must also thank Richard for arranging the installation of the seat on the riverbank honouring David Comparini,
John Matthews for arranging the building of compost bins for Te Omanga Hospice,
Paul Giles for the Hutt riverbank clean-up, and
Gregory De Costa for coordinating various street collections.
RYDA (Rotary Youth Driver Awareness) was a successful event with 78 students from Naenae College participating at the Ricoh Centre on the 13th October.
The Hospice had been looking for support to provide it with two sets of 3 compost bins, for the processing of the large amount of leaves grass and other compostable waste generated in their grounds.
I helped set up NZ’s oldest TV consumer advocacy group Media Matters in NZ, (viewers.org.nz) 27 years ago, a stimulating but often frustrating activity.
Pity that so much that is worthwhile on telly is impossible to watch because of the continuous interruption of commercials.
* Shandon Golf Tournament: Sadly, it appears this event will be cancelled because of insufficient entries.
* Bowling Club Evening - 30th November: We are planning to have "A Night out Bowling" at the Hutt Bowling Club in Myrtle Street. Judy Dearsley is assisting us with the arrangements and as usual, Chalet will do the catering. We are planning "finger food" rather than a sit-down meal so people can play (cleaned fingers), or watch the bowls as they wish.
* Hutt Repertory Play: "Waiting for God" - Thursday 3rd December: We hoping to sell 40 tickets – members, friends and neighbours. Tickets are $20 and it will be an excellent show and will, for us, include canapes and raffles. We must have an early commitment to book those seats and it's very popular.
* Christmas Party date: This is Monday 7th December - keep this day clear!
* Funds Raised: Sergeant's Fund - $225.40; Meat Raffle - $141.00 (tonight's funds raised donated to Polio Plus)
Please study and plan ahead, especially if you are on duty to write a Bulletin Contribution. A reminder that it's also your responsibility to find a replacement if you are unable to fulfill your duty.
