Last Meeting: Maurice Roberts - Wellington City Mission
A good test of any society is how well or otherwise it looks after its most vulnerable members. I had often wondered how the more vulnerable citizens survived in the depths of the lockdown.  Maurice, who works on fundraising and publicity for the Wellington (and Lower Hutt) City Mission told us how difficult it was for them during the depths of the Lockdown. There were none of the normal food donations coming in and all the normal public facilities like showers and toilets were locked.

The City Mission rose to the challenge, using its resources to acquire and deliver food parcels and providing more accommodation in its transitional houses, including Britannia House in Petone.

Maurice also gave an outline of the impressive ongoing and expanding work of the Mission, including its Family Stores, its commercial paella kitchen, and its expanded base in Newtown.

Thank you Maurice, for your talk, and our thanks to the Mission for the amazing work it does.

General Notices:

* District 9940 AGM - Sunday 22 November: As indicated in the District Newsletter, it starts at 8:30am and HERE is the Zoom Link.

* Bowling Club Evening - 30th November: A reminder it's at the Hutt Bowling Club in Myrtle Street, assisted by Judy Dearsley and Chalet is doing the catering - it's "finger food" rather than a sit-down meal so people can play (cleaned fingers), or watch the bowls as they wish.

* Hutt Repertory Play: "Waiting for God- Thursday 3rd December: We hoping to sell 40 tickets – members, friends and neighbours. Tickets are $20 and it will be an excellent show and will, for us, include canapes and raffles. We must have an early commitment to book those seats and it's very popular. Assemble at 7:30pm for a laugh-a-minute start from 8pm!

* Christmas Puddings: Contact Anne Abbott for your order(s):

* Entertainment Book:  Here some changes to the Entertainment book this year:
  • Vouchers have been put on the phone instead of in book form, because no-one goes anywhere without their phone these days.
  • One membership can go on 4 phones so any member of the family can get a discount for different things.
  • The book lasts for a year, whenever you buy it, and the year starts when you use your first voucher.
Contact Anne Abbott if you want to get an Entertainment book, or to see what you are buying for your money.

* Funds Raised: Sergeant's Fund - $67.70
