Petone Community Patrol
Merv Theobald presented a very interesting presentation on the Petone Community Patrol, last Monday evening. He outlined the purpose, structure, and operations of the Petone Community Patrol, emphasising its role as a volunteer organisation that supports Police in keeping the community safe. He explained that any community‑minded citizen can join, provided they commit to at least one patrol a month and pass a rigorous Police vetting process similar to that required of Police applicants. Members must also sign confidentiality agreements and adhere to a strict code of conduct.

Immediate Past President's Message
Thanks everyone for another great Monday night. So good to see you all.  With all these nasty flu’s and everything hanging about it’s important you stay home and get well if you start to feel ‘under the weather’.  Our thoughts are with President Robin and David Gledhill as they recover. I was able to visit our lovely friend Judy Dearsley this week and pass on your regards for her swift recovery.

'Red Door Recovery' Visit

Following the presentation by Blain Collinge and Justine Hamill from Red Door Recovery, we have received an invitation from Blain for members of Eastern Hutt Rotary to visit Red Door Recovery on a Friday.

The visit would be a special opportunity to see the work they are doing and meet some of the people involved. We would be welcomed with a haka and waiata, followed by lunch and then a Ko Wai Au, where clients have the opportunity to introduce themselves and share something of their story with us.

Blain has extended the invitation to any members who would like to attend, and I think it would be a very worthwhile and meaningful experience.

I now need to know who would like to accept the invitation.

Please come to our Rotary meeting next Monday prepared to give a definite YES or NO, as I need to provide Blain with the numbers attending.

- June Stratton, Secretary

Nepal Flash Floods Appeal - RNZWCS
Message from Brent Gerrard - District Governor
Like many of you I am sure, I have been saddened by the images coming out of Nepal today. So many have died and are missing. So many more will have lost their homes and livelihood. The images of that wall of water coming down the valley will stay with me for a very long time.

Many of you have asked if you can help.

RNZWCS has acted very quickly and set up an appeal for Nepal. Stuart Batty has produced the attached flyer and arranged for a dedicated bank reference for the appeal.
If you or your club would like to provide urgent assistance to those in Nepal then a donation to the bank account on the flyer is probably the best way to do so for now. In the longer term I am sure there will be projects to help with the required rebuild but for now they need aid and providing money is the best way to do that.

Take a look at the flyer and consider what you can do. All donations would be appreciated.

Ngā mihi,
Brent
District Governor
