AGED CONCERN – Vision for the future for Elders to feel valued and have the opportunity to age well
It gave me great pleasure to introduce Stephen Opie as our guest speaker at our last Monday evening meeting.

Stephen is the CEO of Aged Concern Wellington and has been in this position since April 2020. Stephen has extensive leadership experience in the charitable sector after spending 25 years working for various non-profit organisations.

His focus is on strategic leadership, project management, communications and the all-important fundraising.

The ethos of Aged Concern is to stand up for the rights of older people and advocate for them over major issues leading to a better quality of life for the future. Issues such as food, shelter, security, healthcare, discrimination and loneliness.

Vintners Lunch 2026 - Thanks from Te Omanga

Just forwarding the official thanks from Rebecca with regards to our assisting at their Vintners’ Lunch - Paul Giles

To our fabulous Vintners' Lunch volunteers,

We hope you had a great experience at our Vintners' Lunch – Delights of Asia on Sunday, or during the set up or pack down of the event.

This event would not have been possible without your help. Thank you for your support and your time.

Confirmed Total Raised

We are delighted to share that we raised $316,727 on the day.

This total includes funding for two much-needed 'Cuddle Beds'. One was made possible through guest donations on the day, and the other has been generously funded by Gee & Hickton Funeral Directors. The beds are being ordered soon, and once delivered and installed in the coming months, will provide comfort and precious time together for many families.

Thank you once again for being part of this special event and for helping us continue to provide compassionate palliative care to our community.

Rebecca Routhan - Fundraising and Events Manager

Music, Recovery and Community Support
Earlier this year, Eastern Hutt Rotary welcomed Blain Collinge and Justine Hamill as guest speakers, when they shared the work of Red Door Recovery, a drug and alcohol treatment centre built on a foundation of love, care and support.

This week, Blain, a co-leader of Red Door Recovery, got in touch with our Club again with a heartfelt message of appreciation for the club’s $500 donation. The contribution will be used to purchase ukuleles from a local Hutt City business, helping to extend the centre’s musical therapy programme.

It is wonderful to know that our club’s support will help bring the enjoyment and therapeutic benefits of music to people on their recovery journey. Even a small contribution can make a meaningful difference.

$7500 - A Great Donation for a Wonderful Cause!
There’s some great news to share!

Thanks to the fantastic support for our recent Quiz and Auction evening, Eastern Hutt Rotary will be donating $7,500 to support the Taveuni Island Dental Project in Fiji.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped make the evening such a success! We’re especially grateful to our fellow Rotary clubs for their wonderful support: Mt Victoria Rotary for their generous donation of two presentation $5 notes signed by Sir Edmund Hillary (what a special auction contribution!), and Rotary Hutt Valley and the Rotary Club of Kapiti for getting behind the evening so generously. Our sincere thanks also go to Briscoes Petone and Mitre 10 Petone for their auction contributions.

It’s wonderful to see what can happen when Rotary clubs, local businesses and our wider community pull together. Thank you all for helping make a real difference for the children of Taveuni Island. We can all feel pretty proud of this one!
