 The Children's Hospital and the Wellington Hospitals Foundation .
Bill Day is a very successful businessman and philanthropist.  Among many achievements he is well known for co-founding Wellington's Life Flight Trust.  He is the Chair of the Wellington Hospitals Foundation which was founded in 2005 as the official charity to support the hospitals operated by the former Capital and Coast District Health Board.  He saw the need for a new Children's hospital as the old one was old fashioned, had no air conditioning, and was difficult for staff and patients, but the DHB and Ministry had no plans to replace it.

Brian, Christine and Paul "Battling" the Floodwaters
During our recent tramping trip.  The stream normally flows UNDER the road!  This was the result of 140mm of rain over the previous 24 hours and the water was much deeper the previous day.  All good ‘fun’!

General Notices

*  It is with sadness that President Kathy advised that our former member, John Pudney passed away today, 15 November at home. There was a private family service held for John this week.  A memorial celebration for John was held today, Friday 18 November at 2pm at the Lower Hutt Town Hall.

* Christmas Trailer Raffle
John Matthews would appreciate donations for the trailer raffle. If you are able to assist, please bring them along on Monday evening.

* Walk for Mental Health
Shelley is looking for a computer savvy person to assist her with setting up an event in Facebook, Instagram and maybe Tik Tok to advertise the walk. Please talk to Shelley if you know of someone.

* Entertainment Books
See Anne if you are interested in buying one, and she will help you to get started, even if you want the book for a different city from Wellington.

* Christmas Puddings
If you would like one or more, please see Anne with your order as soon as possible.  Last year they ran out before they had completed all the orders!!  They are $23 this year.

* The Rotary Foundation is the charity of choice for Rotarians
The Centurion Club is a way that ordinary Rotarians can contribute to the Rotary Foundation by donating $100 a year to them, and in doing so, become Centurion Club members.  Some Rotary Clubs are actually members of the Centurion Club because all their members are in the Centurion Club.  If you can afford to donate NZ$100, between now and May 31st, you can join the Centurion Club.  This is an amount of less than $20 per month.  Talk to Tony Cornelius if you would like to contribute to this worthwhile Rotary initiative.

Parting Thought
A quote from the booklet "1912 - 2022 From King Edward V11 Memorial Hospital for Children to Te Wao Nui Child Health Service"

"I can't wait to be in our new building.  We have such amazing skilled staff in our Child Health Service, but it is so frustrating for them to be working in a building that is hot, cramped, and poorly designed.  Children and families will have a much better experience in the space and comfort of our new children's hospital"
Dr Andrew Marshall
Clinical Leader
Te Wao Nui Child Health Service
